"FROM THE EDGE OF THE WORLD" is Severin Browne's 3rd album and first in more than 20 years. (It is certainly well worth the wait, but we hope to be hearing more from Severin in the near future!) Released in 1995 on Moo Records, the CD was produced by Yoshio J. Maki and features eleven new songs written and co-written by Severin Browne and recorded between November 28, 1994 and December 10, 1994.
"FROM THE EDGE OF THE WORLD" contains some of the best music to come from Severin's decades of songwriting and features guest background vocal appearances by Rosemary Butler, Debbie Pearl, James Coberly Smith and Jackson Browne. The album was recorded and mixed by Jim Scheffler with additional tracks recorded by Robert Read. The album was mastered by Brian K. Gardner. Several songs from the album were prominently featured in the 1997 independent feature film PLAN B, starring Jon Cryer.
"FROM THE EDGE OF THE WORLD" features stellar peformances by Craig Doerge on keyboards, Steve Cardenas on guitar, Dave Carpenter on bass and Carlos Vega on drums -- all complimenting Severin's rich and warm vocals. Additional percussion by Alex Acuna and an appearance by Dave Pietro on sax fill out the world class set of musicians that came together for this great come-back album.
"FROM THE EDGE OF THE WORLD" comes a long way from Severin's two albums for Motown Records in the early 1970s. While maintaining the integrity of Severin's wonderful songwriting skills, this new album is woven with an amazing flair for great melody and lyrics. Songs like "My Love Mo Betta" and "Uptown" showcase Severin's inspired soul and R&B flair which shows a strong Van Morrison influence. "Edge of The World" is a great rocker with a strong Jackson Browne feel, while love songs like "Leaving You's the Hardest Thing I've Known" and "If I Loved You" show that Severin has not lost the great 70's pop feel that was such a part of his earlier recordings.
"FROM THE EDGE OF THE WORLD" was released in 1995 in Japan and has seen limited release in the United States. It is currently out of print.
QUOTES
Owner of one of the sweetest voices in town, Severin is also a crafty tunesmith with a tremendous sense of melody unmatched among his peers.

From the opening chords of "My Love's Mo Betta" I knew this was a cool character. Listening to Severin's music, once signed to Motown Records, makes me wonder why he isn't still. His music is polished bright and shiny and the production is tight and crisp. Severin's vocals have a signature sound that I found very appealing, even after listening to 2000+ hours of music in the last year. His songs like "If I Loved You" and "Leaving You's The Hardest Thing I've known" have great emotional feels, do in large part to the mournful, emotion evoking sound of Severin's vocal performance. Truly an original.
